PE and Sport Premium Report

This report outlines:

  • How the funding is allocated
  • Key priorities for PE, physical activity and sport
  • How staff confidence and subject knowledge are developed
  • How impact is monitored, evaluated and sustained

Participation and engagement

Participation in PE and physical activity at our school is exceptionally strong. All pupils take part in regular, high-quality PE lessons, and a significant proportion of children engage in additional physical activity beyond the statutory curriculum.

  • Pupils of all abilities, including those with SEND and those less confident in sport, participate fully and enthusiastically
  • A wide range of inclusive activities ensures that every child can experience success and enjoyment
  • Participation in clubs, enrichment activities and sporting events is consistently high
  • Physical activity is embedded throughout the school day, including active playtimes and structured opportunities to move

As a result, pupils develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and a positive attitude towards physical activity, supporting both their physical and mental wellbeing.

How do we use the PE and Sport Premium?

We use our PE and Sport Premium funding strategically to ensure sustainable, long-term improvements in PE and school sport. Funding may be used to:

  • Improve the quality of PE teaching through staff training and professional development
  • Increase opportunities for pupils to access a broad and balanced range of physical activities
  • Promote inclusive sport and physical activity for all pupils
  • Enhance lunchtime and playtime provision
  • Broaden both competitive and non-competitive sporting opportunities
  • Invest in high-quality equipment and resources

Impact of the funding

The impact of our PE and Sport Premium funding is clearly demonstrated through:

  • Consistently high pupil participation rates
  • Strong pupil voice, with children reporting high levels of enjoyment and confidence in PE
  • Improved physical competence and fitness
  • Increased engagement from pupils who may not traditionally access sport
  • Confident, skilled staff delivering high-quality PE

About The PE And Sport Premium

Physical activity has numerous benefits for children and young people’s physical health, as well as their mental wellbeing (increasing self-esteem and emotional wellbeing and lowering anxiety and depression), and children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of their peers. Ensuring that pupils have access to sufficient daily activity can also have wider benefits for pupils and schools, improving behaviour as well as enhancing academic achievement.

The school sport and activity action plan sets out the government’s commitment to ensuring that children and young people have access to at least 60 minutes of sport and physical activity per day. It recommends 30 minutes of this is delivered during the school day (in line with the Chief Medical Officers guidelines which recommend an average of at least 60 minutes per day across the week).

The PE and sport premium can help primary schools to achieve this commitment, providing primary schools with £320 million of government funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport offered through their core budgets. It is allocated directly to schools, so they have the flexibility to use it in the way that works best for their pupils.

At Aldbrough Primary School we are committed to developing healthy and happy children and we believe that by using this funding to the best of our ability for our children is key. Please read our latest report to find out how we have used it so far and the benefits to our children.
